Introduction to Health- Ch. 1 & 2
Day 1:
~Seating Chart
~Class Rules/Syllabus (handout to each student)
~Information Sheets
~Race for Reason
~Textbooks
~Getting to Know You
Day 2:
~Read Ch. 1 L. 1 as a class and discuss the health triangle, wellness, & the health continuum. Fill out the outline as class is reading.
HW: Ch. 1 Vocab- Write sentences using the word instead of definitions
Day 3:
~ Go over Ch. 1 L.2- Health influences on the board- Students will fill in each heading before discussion
~Read Ch. 1 L.3 together as a class, go over risk behaviors
HW: Draw a comic strip- Students will make six squares on a blank sheet of paper, then pick one of the top six risk behaviors (p.17) to make a comic strip on how to avoid that risk behavior, must be appropriate & continue through all six squares
Day 4:
~Go over any comic strips students are willing to share
~Read Ch. 1 L.4 as a class on promoting health & wellness
~After reading, students will work in partners on Community Support worksheet, and then discuss as a class
HW. Ch. 1 Review p. 28-30 #1-38
Day 5:
~Quiz on Ch. 1 (15 minutes)
~Read Ch. 2 L. 1 as a class on Health skills, students will be filling out a chart as they follow along.
HW: Ch. 2 Vocab- Write sentences using the word instead of definitions
Day 6:
~Return the quiz
~Read Ch. 2 L.2 Decision making on p. 40-41 & box on p. 42
~Role-playing scenarios: Students will be in groups of 3-4 & given a scenario that they are to act out. They must go through the steps of the decision-making process and act out what decision they came to as a group.
HW: Ch. 2 Worksheets (2 days)
Day 7:
~Read Ch. 2 L.2 on Goal setting pg. 42-44
~Students will work on the goal setting handout after reading, filling out 3 short term goals & 3 long term goals, and an action plan for one of the long term goals
~Make a Bucket List- Must have 75 things they would like to accomplish throughout their lifetime, can be a mixture of short and long term goals
HW: Work on Bucket List & finish Ch. 2 Worksheets
Day 8:
~Read Ch. 2 L.3 on Advertising techniques & Ch. 2 L. 4 on Consumer problems & discuss as a class.
HW: Bring in an ad for activity
Day 9:
~Advertisement Poster- Students brought in ads to use on their posters. Poster boards will be divided into six boxes. Each box must contain one of the six different ad techniques. Students must label and can decorate each box. IF they cannot find an ad to represent the technique, they must draw a picture to represent that advertisement.
HW: Review Guide for Ch.1 & 2 Test
